Galvanized wire (galvanized steel wire, galvanized iron wire, GI wire) is divided into hot dip galvanized wire and electric galvanized wire according to galvanizing method. The most common method is hot dip galvanizing, in which the wire is immersed in a bath of molten zinc. There are usually two grades of zinc layer thickness for hot-dip galvanized wire: ordinary coating and heavy coating. Compared with electrogalvanizing, hot galvanizing not only deposits a thicker layer of zinc on the surface of the wire, but also forms a solid layer of zinc-iron alloy on the surface of the wire, which improves the corrosion resistance of the wire. Electric galvanized wire, also called cold galvanized wire, is made of high quality carbon steel wire. The wire is galvanized using electrolytic equipment. General zinc coating is not very thick, but the electric galvanized wire has enough corrosion and oxidation resistance, galvanized surface is very average, smooth, bright. Electrogalvanizing wire galvanizing is generally 8-50g/m2. Mainly used for making nails and wire ropes, wire mesh and fences, flower binding and wire mesh weaving. Hot dip galvanized wire belongs to galvanized main wire products. Common sizes of hot dip galvanizing range from 8 gague to 16 gague.
